Safety & Training Coordinator - ILN

Job Description:

Works with Operations Managers, Supervisors, Leads, and the Safety & Training Committees to monitor and improve company practices relating to safety and training.  Monitors operational methods to ensure that safety and training is a top priority.  Investigates accidents and suggests corrective actions. Conduct classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and orientation sessions for new and experienced employees on various subjects with the use of leaning management systems, Coaches employees, Leads and Supervisors on improved safety practices.


What you will do:

  • Monitors operational methods to ensure that safety and training is a top priority and makes recommendations on improvements and/or training to management. 
  • Conducts safety audits at the facility.
  • Develop and coordinate the delivery of training classes.
  • Deliver appropriate training to mentors and supervisory personnel in effective techniques for training, such as new employees' orientation, on-the-job training, health and safety practices, and adaptations to changes in policies, procedures, and technologies.
  • Conducts accident investigations.
  • Prepares reports of attendance, grades, and training activities.
  • Conduct recurrent on-the-job training or classroom instruction to acquaint experienced workers with changing procedures or with use of new equipment.
  • Takes primary ownership of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, which includes Hazard Identification and Elimination, Walking-Working Surfaces Risk Assessment, PPE Assessment, 5S, Clean-Up Program.
  • Lead the Behavior Based Safety Program, which includes safety observations, positive reinforcement, feedback mechanism, and recognition through intangible rewards.
  • Trains and coaches the Operational Leadership Team in identifying and addressing risky behaviors.
  • Continuously strive to minimize forklift traffic where the area(s) are congested with freight and pedestrians.
  • Updates safety programs and policies to OSHA standard, maintains OSHA Logs and responsible for OSHA compliance audits.
  • Partner with Operations and Human Resources to assist with worker’s compensation tasks such as, partnering with the occupational healthcare facilities, and return to work with modifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • Requires at least 3 years of operational Lead experience in a busy industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with the safety issues encountered in such a work environment and be aware of good practices to mitigate safety risks.
  • Requires a valid state Driver’s License with no DUI’s in the last 5 years.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.  Must be proficient with e-mail. Must have the ability to learn Litmos Learning Management system along with any other job-related software.


Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, and applicable sections of the state regulations.
  • Technical and or certification skill training in instruction and delivery: or two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
